Part 3 of 3 - Let's Talk Advemt!
I wasn't sure about doing my first advents this year, with everything that's happening with my health, but an Instagram poll of "100% you should do them!" convinced me.
My theme has been brewing for over a year. A Nostalgic Christmas. The ones we remember from our childhood, when everything was so magical. Special Christmas memories we may have shared.
I looked at some old photographs of me at Christmas in the 80s (yes, that is me looking like a angel. Looks can be deceiving!) and was immediately taken back to visits to Father Christmas in his grotto, that first peek of the pile of presents on Christmas morning, feeling the weight of a full stocking on the end of the bed, and checking to see if the mince pie and carrot you left out had been eaten.
I found a photo of my Mum at Christmas in the 60s, and noticed the similarities. A picture by the tree, shiny tinsel, the look of excitement and anticipation. I wanted to recreate that feeling in an advent.
Paper chains and foil garlands, decorating the tree with delicate glass baubles, Dad putting the angel on top, baking mince pies, the smell of the Christmas cake in the tin when it was opened to add a glug of brandy, the sticky marzipan and royal icing, shaped into peaks and adorned with tiny, plastic children building a snowman. We all have our traditions, our memories and our special moments. I am hoping that I can capture that for you in my first ever yarn advent.
Thank you so much to the people who have already ordered - buying a yarn advent is a big decision and I am SO happy that you've chosen me! I hope I manage to bring you some joy in December.
I have six advent slots left. My advent will include 24 mini skeins of hand-dyed yarn in your choice of DK or 4ply weight. There will be a daily stitch marker and somewhere to keep them. I am also including a light up wooden advent calendar and some little extras. An optional 100g skein for Christmas Day is also available.
I am very much hoping to include a daily advent section during Vlogmas - a little video talking about the day's yarn and what inspired this. I hope I get to do this, as I really enjoyed planning and making last year's Vlogmas daily feature - Christmas in Wales.
Advents are available in my online shop, and will be posted in November, arriving before December 1st. I really hope you love them as much as I have enjoyed planning them.
A Nostalgic Childhood Christmas - Advent 2025

I can't wait to see mine. I ordered it as soon as it was released. Don't worry if you can't do a daily chat about each colour inspiration. Look after yourself lovely xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I am really enjoying planning things, and I am hoping to get some of the videos done over the next few weeks, so that they're ready to go in December. 24 seems a lot, haha! xx
